LMA LOOKUP PLEASE
« on: Thursday 19 February 09 09:54 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone that would kindly be able to spare a look-up for a birth/baptism?

My 3 x gt grandfather James Hubbard was born circa 1794/1796 and according to census returns was born in Shoreditch, different census returns vary slightly as do the age!

James married a second time in 1849 at the age of 55 and this showed the name of his father which was Samuel Hubbard - Chairmaker.  For information the Hubbards seem to have lived around the George Street, Shoreditch area as this address has tended to crop up quite a bit on various BMD certificates additionally the occupation of Cabinet Maker/Carvers.

If anyone is able to spare some of their time it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. :)

Richard Hubbard was a fine windsor chair maker in Grantham ( Little Gonerby to be exact ) and had three children christened there in the 1790's . However , I cannot find out where he was born or where he was married . I believe he left Grantham in the 1820's .

Was Richard Hubbard of Grantham related to James and Samuel in Shoreditch ????
Perhaps they were all related to William Hubbard ( 1795-1835) chairmaker who lived at Broad st. Norwich ??

Thank you so much for your message ; I am sure that this is the marriage of the chairmaker that I have been looking for .
Now it would be good to find his baptism and find what profession his father had . If he was married in 1795 and if he was , say 23 then , he would have been born in 1772 .
The internet is just brilliant for this sort of research ; best wishes and once again : thank you .

I actually picked up your query as it was shared on a Lincs History group on facebook.

I'm wondering if there may be a potential naming pattern with his children?

Potentially six baptisms for children born to a Richard and Sussanah, all christened South Witham between 1761 and 1777 including an Elizabeth, born and died Jan 1771.

Is there any indication of the profession of the father or if he could sign his own name ???  In 1802 Richard and Elizabeth Hubbard wittnessed a marriage in St Wulframs , Grantham and signed in beautiful bold handwritting - they had been well schooled . In 1807 Richard is advertising for three journeymen windsor chair makers and in 1808 he is proprietor of a fine Georgian house on the Little Gonerby Enclosure award . These people were educated and of some means .
