McKechnie - Cardross 1840's
« on: Friday 20 February 09 11:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, hoping someone out there can help give me additional info.

Found back to my 4 x Great Grandfather - Hugh McKechnie, who I have found living in Cardross along with his wife Agnes Ann (nee Sinclair).

Does anyone out there have additional info on them of old photos or maps of Cardross showing 'Waterside' as this is where they were residing at the time of the 1841 census.

Any help given will be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Craig

Hello Craig,

A good site for old maps is the National Library of Scotland

Initially use the link below to zoom right into the area you're looking for - then click on the 'Historic' tab.  The maps can change depending on how close in you go.

There are lots of different maps on the site.  Another good site is www.old-maps.co.uk

If you use the free 1841 census at http://www.freecen.org.uk/  make a note of 2 or 3 houses either side of the location of Waterside and this should help you pinpoint it.
