branigan family in athalone 1827

looking for info on Jane branigan born 1827, athalone parents may have come from some where else father pathrick mother catherine, i have been told this was not a common name and they moved on
with the army i think. he was a tailor.  i can't seem to trace them at all.  they seem very elusive any suggestions.

Athlone town is split between two counties - Roscommon and Westmeath, and since the dates you are looking for are before civil registration - you will need to try parish records. The Irish Family History Foundation website hold many transcipts for these counties - see www.irish-roots.ie (pay site, €5 per transcript, index search is free once you register)

As you mention Brannigan was not a common name back then with only about 70 households at the time of Griffiths valuation (c1860).
