Hi have looked at this site and found it very interesting as I do have a Whitehouse line in my tree,. However, All the links just take you to "WORD" documents, and the only link shown on those will obviously ..not work.. ,
Googling the unworkable links takes you to the "One name Studies Guild "where you have to pay to register...
I smell a con...

Message for "Joanne56" from the WHITEHOUSE FAMILY HISTORY CENTRE.
The WFHC is a non-profit service completely free of charge and can be accessed at www.users.waitrose.com/~whitehousefhc.
There is no "con" involved.  Everything is free. You are completely mistaken.

I do not know why the links would not work for you and can only guess that you do not have MS Excel installed on your computer.  The indexes are written in MS Excel and obviously will not work if you don't have it.  You can download a reader free or install the free Open Office software.

As to the Guild of One-name Studies, you are under another misapprehension.  Access to the directory of members' studies (such as to mine) is completely free to the general public.  You can obtain my e-mail address and other particulars there.  Having done so, you can then contact me with a query about the Whitehouse surname and I will do my best to help you.  I have some 470 correspondents and try to link newcomers into existing trees.

I am member 1032 of the Guild of one-Name Studies and have registered the surname Whitehouse.  I pay an annual subscription and I also had to pay a small once-only fee to have the one-name study registered.  This gives me the advantage of a contact point so that  those who have a genealogical interest in the name can contact me, as I have explained above.   Members of the public making the enquiry do not have to pay anything.

I trust that this clarifies matters for you.  An apology would be appreciated.

Hello again,
Sorry for any previous misunderstanding, didn't realise it was a personal site as link didn't work for me.
Was prompted by recent post to try link again and this time it worked fine.
I think I may have found my ancestor on your probate and grants index. Though I am not sure what this implies.
How would I add my Whitehouse info to your database.
My 5 times gt.Grandfather was Joseph Whitehouse, b. 1802 Oldbury; his daughter Sarah b. 1824 Tipton married James Davies b. 1818 Oldbury; but interestingly their daughter Honor b.1847 married James Parry.
Please advise on how to add info if that is possible.

OK, Joanne - you are forgiven !
The databases (indexes) on the WHITEHOUSE FAMILY HISTORY CENTRE website are posted by me for public information and are not interactive.  So, you can't yourself add to them.   You can, if you wish, register yourself with the WFHC, in which case you will get a reference number, which will be added to the databases at the next update time.  In order to register, you need to comply with the registration formalities which you will find in the REGISTRATION FAQs document on the website.  To contact me, see Section 6 of that document.
Kind regards, Keith
