Slide Shows
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 23:54 GMT (UK) »
I was asked By Rabbit B about putting several photos together to create a small slide show.
This can be used as an Avatar as long as you do not exceed 50k.
The way I have done it is to create a GIF Image.
If you GOOGLE - PHOTOSCAPE, and download it(Its FREE by the way), you can use this program to make one.
It allows you to upload you photos and put them in the order you want. It also allows you to change the time that each photo is on the screen.
Then you can save it as a GIF Image.
Its not difficult, a little trial and error will sort it out.

Hi Dave  :)

I've done a`few and they are fun but the max size for avatars is circa 20kb or preferably less as far as I can gather:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,262810.msg1482250.html#msg1482250

It's easy to compress the gifs to make them smaller. I did one for Mum44 this week - down from big to 14.5kb.

I also did a funny for Polldoll last year to show a restoration in stages  :)

Good Morning Rabbit  :)

I didn't take offence at all - I was really emphasising that it's not that difficult. You have to make sure that the various photos are alligned perfectly though or they come up rather jumpy.

I used to do small animations like this at art college - pre-digital days. If you do a complex one it's best to do a Story Board first .

Also, I was trying to emphasize that avatars should be 20kb or less rather than the 50k that Dave had said.

Sorry Gadget for the error about the size, another "Senior Moment" ;D ;D.
I am not very "techie" myself, but will have a go.
Just try and have a bit of fun.
If it all goes wrong, have a cup of tea and watch "Bargain Hunt" :D

hello gadget,

sorry i was out for a while, had the get my paw re-dressed.

that all sounds very clever indeed to me.  how i envy people with artistic talent, i haven't got any you see, so that is why i hang out with clever people, in the hope that some of it might rub off.  but i do get ideas now and then. hence the reason for this thread.

did you look at the pics on the other thread.  they are really lovely

Yes I did  :)

However, being an 'arty-farty' kind of person, I really liked the original - all those lovely blue marks. It was wonderful !

I think it's best, for the sake of Rootschat's performance, to keep avatars as small as possible though and best to stick to jpg or gif files not those enormous pngs.

hi again Gadget,

i think the original is a beautiful picture, but you have to admire the artistry in the others.

i agree with you about small avatars, but how could you pick which one of those lovely pics to use.  someone would feel hurt whatever you do and he is hoping that someone will recognise this lady.
