Extended Family in India
« on: Sunday 01 March 09 13:53 GMT (UK) »
Dear all,

Have been trying to find a number of answers to two branches of family and unfortunately cannot find anything out via Fibis and other weblinks previously suggested.

1. Looking for 3 persons who were understood to be in the Army in India and may even have died there. These are: Sydney Anstis b 1872, Robert Anstis b 1877 and Reginald Anstis b 1887.

2. Another branch of family settled in Darjeeling to work on tea plantations by the name of Sarah (ex Anstis) and Henry or Harry Dominey and I can find no further information in respect to these people.

Given the nature of the held records is it likely that a visit to the NA is the only real solution to find out further information? Thanks in advance for any advice received.

Brionne,

Many thanks for the email but since my original email I have managed to find out some further information regarding:

1. For one branch of the family who we understood may have been in the Army in India and may even have died there.

These are revised to:

a) Harold WJ (?) Anstis b 1871 and Robert Anstis b 1877 - disappear after 1891 census (possibly in India?)

c) Reginald Anstis b 1887 - disappears after 1901 census

2. We now understand that the surname of Sarah (ex Anstis) and Henry or Harry was DOMING (not Dominey). So the information you found was based upon my poor information, sorry :-[! We also found that they had (at least) the following children:

a) Harry Doming b 1876 d ?

b) Willie Doming b 1879 in Kurseong India d ?

c) Charlie Lionel Doming b 1881 in Kurseong India d ?

d) Jane Doming b 1884 in ? India d in NZ ?

e) Netta Doming b? in ? d ?

3. It would be really great if someone can  find some further information on all the above as we have hit a brick wall.

4. Many thanks for your assistance to date.

Brionne,

Thanks, it could be them on a return trip to India but looking at childrens birthdates they must have been in India pre 1876 as a number were born there.

Brionne,

1. Many thanks. Most of the links suggested have proved fruitless I am afraid so a trip to the India Office maybe the only answer!

2. Thanks again for the info to-date.
