When I tried the above link I just got a white blank page. I am a bit of a computer buffoon so I might be missing something.

Just tried Gary's link to the BTs and it's fine, but it starts with a blank white screen and sometimes takes a while to load.

Hi. I thought Matthew was born in 1801. Have I made a mistake here?

If you got Matthew's age from the 1841 census, it was usual for them to round down adults' ages to the nearest 5 years, so not too accurate, and the 1797 birth is only a little out

Hi DougalG

This wont add anything to your family tree, but William Norvell Blackbird was my boss at the Co-operative Wholseale Society in West Blandford Street, Newcastle, when I worked there between 1955 and 1962.  He was the Branch Administrative Officer (top guy) and I was initially the office junior.  He could reduce me to a quivering wreck just by looking over the top of his specs but he was a great fellow with a good sense of humour

First time I've seen his name in 46 and a bit years.  Couldn't let it pass without some comment

John

Hi Barbara, I realise that the first Matthew you mention is a marriage but what is the second? Is it a death? Thank you very much for finding those, I think at least one of those might be mine and I have a feeling they are all the same family but different branches and I think I will find a connection when I get further back.

Hi, My 3x great grandfather was William Blackbird (Coop Owner of thirty four years) - his daughter Jane and then his grandson Blackbird Baggott was my great grandfather.
I have managed to go as far back as the early 1700s and vast amount of family members are on our tree at ancestry.com.  try that first as I have uploaded lots of photos of Swalwell and events around that time.
There are lots of forums www.swalwelluk.co.uk/memories is good and there is also a few bits relating to the family living further south.
Thanks :-) A
