messenger at the house of lords how do I find?
« on: Sunday 08 March 09 11:05 GMT (UK) »
Is there a way I can find someone by their occupation? Im afraid I have little to go on. Im trying to trace a John White and all the info I have is that on his son's wedding cert. in 1903 he named his father as John White deceased and his occupation as 'messenger at the House of Lords' I have no idea when or where he died except that his son Edward was born in St.Martins in the fields London
about 1868. I know this is a shot in the dark but I thought maybe there is records somewhere of employees at the house of lords. [ I have no idea what his job entailed perhaps he just ran around delivering bits of paper all day!] Anyway if anybody has any ideas if I can look this up somewhere I would be very grateful for any advice

I think the messengers in the House of Lords are employed by the Queen.  But I'm not certain.
Certainly the messengers in the House of Commons are employed by the Queen.

Hi,
Perhaps you need to try to narrow down when he died by fining him on various census- 1901 would be the last possible if he was deceased by 1903.  Then if you have a clue checking out the freebmd would give you his death year and quarter.

Then, when I had that info on him,  I'd look at the House of Lords website to see if they have archives or a contact and ask if they have any info... can't hurt and you may score.
No hide, no Christmas goodies ;D

Antoinette,

Do you have Edward's birth certificate or any definite birthdate for him?

A search for a John WHITE, 'messenger', in 1881 produces just one (but no Edward with him) in St George, Hanover Sq.
John WHITE, messenger Carlton Club, 33, b Scotland with wife Jane, 32, also born Scotland.

Kind regards,

JAP
