Hi PortholeMike

I do have a copy of that waggon now - but thank you for your offer. It's an amazing picture - really reflects life as it was then. I would have loved to have taken a close look at it  :)
If I manage to find out anything about Mark and Charlotte - I will post details on here as I think there are quite a few people interested in this family.

Hi Cathay,

Have you managed to find any siblings for Mark or Charlotte?  All I've managed to find is a brother, born a few years after Mark and that's Daniel Taylor. This was through the census, so expect you have him already.
I haven't any siblings for Charlotte at the moment.
Someone mentioned to me that the Taylors may have come from Ireland - but nothing to confirm that.
I didn't realise that they might have been Jewish though - thanks for that.

A friend of mine has a photograph of a Penfold ancestor, but only as a photocopied page from an unidentified book. It is described as being of a brush wagon c1880, Penfold, Bideford Quay, supplied by Mr B Hughes, Chairman of N Devon Museum Trust. The page is numbered 97. I would like to help her find the book it was in, and perhaps obtain a proper photograph for her.
I have contacted North Devon records office, but received no reply. I don't think the North Devon Museum Trust still exists. The photo looks very much like the one of Betsy Penfold & family on Romanygenes at the bottom of Photo Gallery 4, & maybe the same one. Is this the photo mentioned in this thread?

If anyone can help my friend would be very grateful
