NICHOLSON family Cumberland
« on: Saturday 21 March 09 20:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am researching my paternal family line (NICHOLSON) from Cumberland.
Places they resided are Hesket, Gill, Greystoke, Laugdale and Ainstable.
I have just discovered that Henry NICHOLSON from Hesket (born circa 1815) married an Elizabeth NIXON from Ainstable (born circa 1822) in Ainstable in 1842.
From their marriage cert I now know that Elizabeth's parents were Hugh and Elizabeth NIXON, and that Henry's father was William NICHOLSON.
How can I find out about William and his wife from Hesket?

If you go to IGI search, and put william nicholson in parents name and elizabeth as mother (probably monkhouse but I wouldn't bet on it as it's a submitted and all the subsequent births are submitted as opposed to baptisms) and don't fill in any other fields then search you will find in the english returns at least 7 children cos I found a septimus born in hesket to william and elizabeth. If you have problems come back to me and i will copy the records

Bob,

Blimey, that's brilliant. FANTASTIC.

I have no idea what IGI means though. Sorry.
