Just looking around the Internet today for Shrimptons from Long Crendon.

My GG Grandmother was born Alice Shrimpton (about 1864) in Maidstone - but her father was Samuel Shrimpton (born about 1827) in Amersham area. According to the 1871 Census.

Tracing back through the earlier Census records, Samuel Shrimpton shows in the 1841 + 1851 records in the Parish of Long Crendon.

Samuel's parents would appear to be a John J Shrimpton (born about 1808 in Alcester, Warwickshire) and Mary Shrimpton (born about 1813 in Long Crendon) - although that is from the 1851 Census : also shows a total of 5 Sons : George, Jonah, Samuel, Stephen and William. There are 3 Daughters : Ann, Martha and Sarah.

The 1841 Census - shows the father - John J Shrimpton born in Buckinghamshire.

Have also seen a few of the Shrimpton photos - would be interested to know where the above fits in !

I think I'll next send an pm to Valda

I will reply to your pm but just to say you have confused two distinct trees and two different men both called Samuel. Samuel Shrimpton born Amersham 1st January 1820 died Maidstone 8th March 1905, with Samuel Shrimpton born Long Crendon 4th December 1832 died New Zealand 9th September 1906, emigrated 1854.

Valda,

Yes, I can see 2 different Samuel's now - it's a combination of only looking at the names and dates in the past couple of days and also the 'spread' of approx birth dates through the Census records. I gave them a little too much leeway.

My thanks to you for any response. I do know that the 'Maidstone' Samuel Shrimpton was registered in the 1861 Census as working in the Maidstone Lunatic Asylum !! Lucky him.

Victor Shrimpton born Redditch 20th March 1867, died at Redditch on 15th July 1920. He married Emily Johnson 26th December 1892 in Feckenham. Her dates were circa 1866? born Feckenham, died 6th February 1946 Redditch.
They actually had 6 known children (all born I think at Crabbs Cross), though only the eldest Albert Victor 28th September 1893-16th May 1917 lived to adulthood. Their other children were

Emily 1894-buried 5th February 1894 died at 3 hours
Emily 1894-buried 31st July 1894 died at 12 hours
Harold 20th June 1895-buried 1st July 1895 died at 9 days
Harry 1896-buried 21st May 1896 died at 22 days
Emily 3rd February 1897-1897 (died same quarter)

Thus the death of their only remaining child Albert aged 23, was even more tragic considering their other childrens' very short lives.
