Hi Cathy and Lewis.

I think that Donald's parents were NOT Alexander McLean and Margaret McBean.

There is a family bible - at the Strathalbyn Museum ( ph 08 8536 2656).  The notes written in the bible indicate that the father is Allan.  There are no registered births for Donald in 1772 but there is one for 26th Sept 1779 with parents Allan McLean and Rachel Rankin in Blaich.  Blaich is good because it is next to Duisky Estate which Donald leased - across the loch from Fort William.

There is a big red book produced in 1995 :  "History of Donald & Christina McLean and their descendants".  The Strathalby Museum has a copy.

If you are still interested, would you like to stay in touch because there are moves to update the big red book.

I am a descendant of Donald's oldest son, Allan.
