Your great grandfather William McGill married 1869
St Aidan's.

Have you a copy of the marriage certificate as this will
give the name of his father, your gg grandfather?

Thanks, I do have a copy of the marriage certificate obtained from the bmd in Limavay registrar's office
His Father was James a labourer from Tyrcorran which I believe is opposite St Aidan's RC Church
his Wife Catherine McCorriston's from Duncrun her Father was called Hugh also from Duncrun

incidentally can the 1901 census and earlier be obtained from PRONI on microfiche ?

1901 is first complete census for Ireland. It is available on microfilm (not microfiche) at PRONI and Ballymena Library, as well as from LDS Libraries (check to see whether in stock or needing to be ordered).
There are some fragments of 1831 census for Co. Londonderry that survive but the only list head of household, number of males and females and religion.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

The 1831 census covers the whole of county
Derry. The census survived because the OS
department had made a copy in 1834 as they were
interested the religious make up of the county
at the time they were preparing the OS memoirs.
Therefore, it is a transcript of the original census
and a secondary source.

I would imagins that James McGill/Magill would
be listed in 1831 as well as Hugh McCorriston.

Hugh McCorriston was in Aughill, Magilligan 1831
but I can find no McGill/Magill in the parish in 1831.
