Look Up US Census Records - Wisconsin

Hi

I am trying to trace Tempest Slinger born in Slaidburn England about 1821.   I believe he went to the United States in 1856 and settled in Wisconsin in 1857.  My notes show he was a farmer and a  connection with Slingers' Mill in Sauk Country   His first wife, Hannah Riley, died in England.  He then married Margaret Dick and they had four children, Henry, John, Fred and Dick.  I believe he was alive in the 1880s but have no further details about Tempest or his family.  Grateful for any information you can find.

TEMPEST SLINGER, farmer, and proprietor of Slinger's Mill, Sec. 5; P. O. Plain; was born in England, in 1821; he came to the United States in 1856, and settled in Wisconsin in 1857; he has been a continual resident of the State since. His first wife, Anna Riley, died in England; the maiden name of his present wife was Margaret Dick; they have four children living--Henry, John, Fred and Dick. Mr. Slinger owns a pleasantly located farm. In politics, he is a Democrat.

Thanks you for sending me details of where Tempest is buried and the information gathered so far has filled in many blanks.    I was intrigued by the footnote which mentions the Baraboo Evening News of 1901 and the the trial of Tempest Slinger and wonder if it is possible to access this report or at least find a sumary of what took place?

The Baraboo Public Library has copies of those newspapers on microfilm.
I have been there doing research of my own and they were quite helpful.
Perhaps if you wrote or called them they could do a search for you. I dont know what the fees would be or if they do that type of thing but it could be worth a try. They could possibly look it up and send you a copy of the article...
