Hi Newgent_for_life,
What an interesting story.
You have collected a good amount of information about a very early arrival ;D

Is there anything you are searching for now that needs Rchatters help?

Dear Newgent (hope you don't mind me shortening your name ;D ;D)
i was intrigued by your place name "Emy" as i had never heard of it, so I looked it up and it doesn't currently exist.

Could it have possibly have been Emu Plains? The distance is about right form Sydney.

Also had a look to see who your Archibald married but there are two marriages listed, and I also checked the children born to Archibald, and there are a heap (as you suggested). You might like to explore births, deaths and marriages for your family at

Rchatters help would be much appreciated in trying to discover the descendants of this early emigrant.

Dear Susie,
Normally I will only use the full name in my initial introductory letter. So you beat me to it ! I would say that you are correct in your assumption that the place is "Emu". I copied the information from the original letter that was sent back to Keady in 1850s. I will start searching the BMD records you noted

Dear Newgent, ;D

Here is a link to a quick history of Emu Plains
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emu_Plains,_New_South_Wales

There are also some comprehensive histories held by libraries (especially Penrith Library Service)  as well as some fabulous photos at http://www.pictureaustralia.org/ (Just enter Emu Plains as the search term).

Have you sorted out the births, deaths and marriages yet from the large number listed on the NSW BDM site?

Cheers
