Hi Lester

I've been back looking at the births of other Mollet's this morning and whilst the Mary Jane details that I have given you may be the correct family hold fire before you order any certificates. Note the following Mollet births in St Helier between 1860 and 1870.

Jane Susan - 17th Aug 1860 to 30th Sep 1861, volume 17, page 89
Emma Jane - 17th Aug 1860 to 30th Sep 1861, volume 17, page 14
Alfred George - 17th Aug 1860 to 30th Sep 1861, volume 17, page 3

Mary Jane - 6th Nov 1862 to 9th Dec 1863, volume 19, page 57
Ann  Sarah - 6th Nov 1862 to 9th Dec 1863, volume 19, page 17

Philip Charles - 9th Dec 1863 to 6th Jan 1865, volume 20, page 79
Ann Elizabeth - 9th Dec 1863 to 6th Jan 1865, volume 20, page 74

Louisa Agnes - 3rd Feb 1866 to 9th Mar 1867, volume 22, page 335
Amelia - 3rd Feb 1866 to 9th Mar 1867, volume 22, page 134

Charles Olive - 9th Mar 1867 to 8th May 1868, volume 23 page 70
Matilda Elizabeth - 9th Mar 1867 to 8th May 1868, volume 23 page 61

Julian Albert - 22nd Jul 1869 to 5th Oct 1870, volume 25, page 40

Now you will see that there is another Mary Jane to the one I gave you. This could mean that the first one died and the subsequent child was given the same name. So I searched the deaths in St Helier for the same period and found:

Mary Jane - May 1860 to Dec 1861, volume 14, page 45

Jane - Feb 1866 to Feb 1867, volume 18, page 388
Amelia - Feb 1866 to Feb 1867, volume 18, page 474

Harriet - Feb 1867 to May 1868, volume 19, page 76
Thomas - Feb 1867 to May 1868, volume 19, page 63

Mary - May 1868 to Oct 1869, volume 20, page 78
Ann Elizabeth - May 1868 to Oct 1869, volume 20, page 57

Charles Carter - Oct 1869 to Feb 1871, volume 21, page 40
Julian Albert - Oct 1869 to Feb 1871, volume 21, page 23

You will see in the deaths there is an entry for Mary Jane and possibly her parents Thomas and Jane. I need to do some more research to establish if they are all Thomas and Jane's children. Some are clearly not as they were born (possibly) after they had dies.

Now, it would cost you a fortune to send for all these certificates so leave it with me and I'll get back to you some time next week.

Stewart

Hi Lester

I've now had a chance to look at the birth certifcates.

First the message I sent you for the birth of MJM, St Helier Births index, 17th Aug 1860 to 30th Sept 1861 on page 81 is incorrect. I was reading a bad photocopy of the index and it should be page 31 not 81. Having said that, this MJM is not the daughter of TM and JD. She was the illegitimate daughter of Ester Ann Mollet.

Of all the other births I gave you the following are children of TM and JD:

Jane Susan - 17th Aug 1860 to 30th Sep 1861, volume 17, page 89 - 13th August 1861 in Roseville Street, St Helier

Mary Jane - 6th Nov 1862 to 9th Dec 1863, volume 19, page 57 - 5th June 1863 at Havre de Pas, St Helier

Ann Elizabeth - 9th Dec 1863 to 6th Jan 1865, volume 20, page 74 - 13th September 1864 at Roseville Street, St Helier

TM's occupation was given as mariner.

Hope that helps.

Stewart

Any unaccounted for Mollets who might have emigrated to Canada? I used to have a dentist in Montreal named Mollet...my mother said his family had been French Huguenots...

Hi Lester

I had a look at the census you highlighted and I see there is a son called Alfred born about 1860 +/- 1 year. There was an Alfred in the original list of Mollet births I gave you and as I still have the notes of that birth and I can tell you that this family not your family. Alfred and this Thomas's parents were Thomas Mollet and Esther Payne.

Coincidentally the Emma Jane on my list is the daughter of Thomas Mollet and Jane Pinel. Both this Thomas and the father of Alfred were navel carpenters.
