Hi Heather
So far, I have only seen the PR's saying "infant" or "s/o" (what the age cut off between infant and son I do not know - but would like to know ?)
Looking at Bishopstone PR's ...

It is quite possible that John Snr (h/o Margaret) was buried 11 Jun 1748, because the Margaret entry shows she was the "wife of" and not a "widow"
It was also quite possible that John's father was Edward, therefore he was possibly bap 1697/8
I hope this helps you in your research
regards
John
