I thought there was a message posted earlier- perhaps it's been removed for some reason?

I have the same James Rowntree born 10 Nov 1870 in my family tree.

He was married to Rachel McCall, whose half-brother Robert was my great-great grandfather.  Unfortunately, I have no more information on James.

Good luck!

Hi my name is Claire Chalmers I found your post and realised my family tree is linked to yours. In your post you mention Elizabeth Rountree who married a king and had children - Alfred, Dorrie, Mary and Edith and Evelyn. Evelyn King is my Nanny. Would love to hear from others who have links in the family tree. I now live in Belfast Northern Ireland. :)

Thank you for the information kingskerswell. What is confusing me is the spelling of Rowntree/ Rountree. When did it change and why ? In the 1911 census it is rowntree and it looks the same in the 1901 census.

Hi,
I don't think that the spelling was changed. It is more likely that the person who wrote the name down thought it was spelled a particular way. Spelling did not really become fixed until about 1900.

Claire,

It is fantastic to hear from you. Your Elizabeth was very close to my grandfather when he was young and living in Loughall. She acted as his mum after his own mother married and moved to England.

I have a photo of Jodie King (1930ish), and my mums cousin Mable came over to see us in the 1980's. It would great to learn more about our families.

Best wishes

Shaun
