*Completed*Buckholm Tower & Fairy Dene
« on: Saturday 11 April 09 23:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,
These postcards are of Buckholm Tower? My GGUncle Will Lee use to live in
Buckholm Tower and I was just wondering
if anyone could give me directions.
The other postcard is of the Fairy Dene.
Another cattier gave me directions to
it. Old Melrose Rd. The meadow looks
so inviting. Is it on the right or the left
side of the road. As you are going out of
Galashiels? Is that the Tweed River running through?
Well, any help.
Thank you, Gala Girl

Hi

I was reading my sadly departed  Fathers story about his life and he started with information about his maternal grandparents - who had in fact died before he was born in 1919 . My Fathers name was Kenneth Leslie and his Mother - Agnes Leslie (nee Lee) came from Buckholm , where her father was a well respected border farmer ( Andrew Lees) who died in 1919 leaving each of his  four children £20,000 .

I note below "These postcards are of Buckholm Tower? My GGUncle Will Lee use to live in "

I think there may be a link up between your GGUncle and my GGGrandfather - and would love to hear from you

Regards JL000

Hi,
I was happy to hear from you. My Great Grandparents Alex Purves
and Mary Paterson lived in Galashiel before they came to the Kansas USA
I have been looking for anyone who might have a connection.
The picture was with my GGrandmother's collection of postcards and pictures.
Is your GGGrandfather Lee related to the Tweedie,Welsh, Purves or Paterson?
Do you live in Scotland? I have been over to Scotland doing some looking in
towns and cemeteries. Also checking out the records in Hawick and Galashiels.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Gala Lass

Hi
Lovely to hear from you and thank you for your insight.

Currently I live in London with family in Norfolk

I am quite excited as this is just the beginning of my quest to look into the Lees family which was my Grandmothers maiden name. I am off on holiday next week and then looking forward to visiting my Mother who has some family records which I hope to see.

I found on another site an Andrew Lee who was researching his Grandfather who was also Andrew Lee   at Buckholm in the 1880's - we are communicating to see if we can piece together the family and the extended family

I will keep you posted on our research

Kind Regards

JL :)

Hi,
I told my sister you were in touch. She and I have been
doing geneology since 2004. I came, with my sis and her husband, to Scotland in 2005. Then I returned by myself in 2006. She knew the collection of cards, letter and photos from my
ggrandmother Purves existed long before I did. They have been a wealth of knowledge for us in our quest to locate where we came from. It was in Galashiels. We have been to the address our
ggrandparents lived. It is just so exciting to walk where they walked and touch where they touched.
I have been looking at the card with Caddonfoot Cemetery
on it. I believe your family is on my Welsh or Tweedie side. I have been trying to send you the scanned card but I am having trouble. If you want to pm me you email address I will send it to you. I have found your grandfather Lee's birth, death and marriage
I think :), but I am not for sure. I have to check somemore.
Do you get on Scotlands People. I just love it. You can really
find the information on there.
I live in Missouri USA and this time of year is very hot. They call it the dog days of summer.
Hope you have a great time on holiday. I will keep in touch
on here, as to what or if I find anything else.
 Thanks for emailing me, GL
