Missing children - what do you think?
« on: Sunday 12 April 09 16:13 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Really looking for your opinions on a hunch tbh.

I'm searching the history of my Great-Gran's family (Lennon's). Her father John married Rose then after her death married Rose's sister Susan. It's just dawned on me that I think there may be another child who I haven't/can't find. The children are as follows  (first 3 children with Rose, rest with Susan)....

Elizabeth b1894 - John's Mothers name
James b1895 - Rose & Susan's fathers name
Annie b1897 - Rose & Susan's mothers name
Mary b1903 - name of both Grandmothers
Francis b1905 - Susan's Grandfather
Rose Ann b1907 - John's Grandmother
John b1908 - John's Grandfather & himself
Michael b1911 - John's father
Rose Ann b1913 - John's Grandmother; 1st Rose Ann died in infancy
Denis b1916 - John's Grandfather
Agnes b1920 - no idea lol possibly John's sister

Does it strike anyone else that there "should" be a Michael before there is?

Also I cannot find James' birth anywhere. I've no idea why not. I can find him later on (when he does to America), but his birth is eluding me.

Thanks Julie

Hi Julie

I take it you've looked for deaths of a baby or babies called Michael between 1894 and 1911 on Sp, (In my family the same name for a baby was used three times.)

Another possibility I have read about in a Scottish ancestry book, (which unfortunately I cannot reference as I cannot remember which one!), is that if a family member died shortly before a baby was born then the baby may be given that persons name so it could be both grandfather's died just before two of the boys were born, (although it seems a bit of a coincidence).

Maybe it will be a question of having to wait until the 1911 Scottish Census is released, (assuming like the English and Welsh Census the number of children born to the family are given).

Jean  :)

Hi Jean

Yeah I've tried looking up a Michael. Unfortunately as John and Susan weren't married they don't seem to have registered all of their children when and where you would expect them to be.

In fact at least 3 of their children only have deaths - no births!

I'm wishing my life away until the census comes out!! I'm hoping it'll really put into place exactly who there was in this family - though it remains to be seen if they are truthful in that!

Thanks
Julz

Hi Julie

I know what you mean, my family kept so many secrets and they probably wouldn't have been too pleased to know that some of these would be revealed by my brother and I in the future!
Role on Scottish 1911 Census!

Hi

I know what you mean by that. I'm not sure if my Great-Gran (a fiery Glaswegian woman prone to saying exactly what she thought!) would be thanking me for unearthing some secrets she wanted to know or giving me a massive row for not "letting the past stay where it fell".

Roll on indeed!!

When and where did John and Rose marry?

Hi sancti

John and Rose married on Jan 2nd 1893 in Paisley - I can't read the name of the chapel, but it was an RC chapel. Rose died in 1900.

He married Susan (after having at least 5 children with her!) on May 7th 1913 in Burnbank, Hamilton.

Regards

Hello Julie,
I stumbled upon this old post of yours (as well as older posts on Ancestry about Ellis Island ship manifest), and I had been researching the Lennons of Hamilton, as they are ancestors of my wife's family (Annie Lennon was her Great grandmother).
Let me know if you are interested in sharing research and artifacts.
