west in Etwall
« on: Saturday 19 February 05 13:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for my ancestor Thomas West who was born around 1820 in Etwall.  Would like to find out who his parents were as have come to a brick wall!  I know he moved to coton in the elms as an adult, and possibly died in Burton upon Trent.  Can't find him in the Coton 1841 census, so assume he was in Etwall then.  Many thanks if you can help.

Hi Frosty,

Since I live in the Burton on Trent area this one grabbed my attention, but not much help I'm afraid. Can't find Thomas or Harriet on the 1871 or 1881 Census, son Frederick is shown on the 1881 Census living in B-O-T and having been born in Coton in the Elms. There is a Thomas West who died in Burton Sep qtr 1855 (Burton 6b154) but as it's pre 1866 no age is given. It could he  is your Thomas and Harriet remarried after that which is why can't find her in 1871.
Think you're going to have to trawl through 1837online looking for the marriage of
Thomas and Harriet to find his father probabe dates between 1840- 1847

Many thanks to Sunflower and Sandra for your interest & info - know that Harriet died in Coton in the Elms, but no sign of Thomas' death so far.  Thanks for the 1851 census result for Etwall - my ancestor is Frederick, and had not found him in the Coton census - I now know for sure that this Thomas was my ancestor.  Thanks again! :-*
