Looking at the 1851 index.

William & Ann were 65 and 60 and working in the shoe trade, William was born in Heigham and Ann was born in Norwich.

Samuel & Sophia were 28 & 22 with young Samuel William aged 1.  Samuel was a bookbinder & Sophia was a shoebinder.  All were born in Norwich.

Hi Everyone,

Been reading this board, i live in Norwich do any of you want any photographs of churches, houses, addresses etc?
If you do post me the details and i will get onto it for you.

Probably a useless piece of information but you never know. I grew up in Old Costessey, Norwich there was a family of Carr on West End and i believe are still there today (1963-2005). You often see them driving their horse / pony and trap through the village especially on weekends.

Hello Jackie,

that's a very kind offer, thank you. If you fancy a stroll around St Edmund's cemetery (camera-in-hand ready to snap any CARR gravestones) the next time that you're visiting Old Costessey, I for one would be interested!

Regards

Hello All,

William Carr was a shoemaker.

Samuel Harcourt was a bookbinder in the 1851 census, and indeed remained so until his death in 1874. Sophia nee Carr was a Shoe binder, although by the 1881 census she is a Lodging House Keeper at 11 Pottergate Street, Norwich. There is a very good photo of the house on:

Hello List,

I am a descendant of a Ellen  "Ellenor" Carr b c 1672
probably Tittleshall, Norfolk...
d 1752
She married a John Glover from that area.
Her father name is John Carr.

I also have in the next generation a Sarah Carr
c 1686-1748, who married Ellenor's son Robert Glover c 1703.  He may have been a cousin???
Her father was from Great Massingham, no known name.
Can anyone please advise me if have any of this families infromation?  Thank you David

Hi David,

Wow - you've done really well to get back that far.

I'm back as far as William b. abt 1786.  I don't know where exactly, but it was somewhere in Norfolk.

So no obvious connection to my Carr's - but you never know!
