i have the service number of a family member who died during ww1.does anyone know what records are available to look at and where do i get them from.
haines and hunt in wiltshire,gloucester,swindon.
neville in gloucestershire.
dixon in wiltshire.

Hi Blinky,

The service records of your ancestor (if they still exist) will be at the National Archives in Kew.As you say he died in the WW1,have you tried searching for his name on the CWGC site?

This might give you the regiment that he served in and then you can search the National archives,here's a link to some info to get you started :)

Have you tried www.britishwargraves.co.uk. I've found my gt uncles war grave and have been forwarded a picture and all the details. Very worth a look.......... Lyn
