old red cow inn swindon

I am looking for a pub in swindon called old red cow inn, i cant find any google results within swindon for this pub.
It was there around 1881 census, and has since disappeared.

I do know it was there but cant pin point it, would love to know if anyone knows of it at all.

the red cow was at the top of princess street. I think it was pulled down in the 70's. I don't know of a " old red cow" The local paper the swindon advertiser jus recently had some people write in reminiscing about growing up in that area, following a series of aerial photos/history column [do you call it that?] they have a web site. [ I often spent a lunch hour in there from college . not every day, it was day release, one day a week.  john.

just to add to my previous comment, I think there was a red cow pub in a slightly different place but in the same general area that was replaced by the the one i mention. Ihave a feeling the older one may have been in cow lane. john.

Thanks for letting me know about the adver post, i found it earlier most lucky that they did this recently.
As you say 2 pubs the old red cow inn i believe was in cow lane, basically an area of swindon near princess street is now.
The red cow was as you say knocked down late 1968.

At some point they changed names not sure as census in 1881 says old red cow inn, the advertiser says new one may have been built in 1879 so have they got it wrong, i dont think census can be wrong.

So probably the building changed and kept the same name in 1881, the name change happened after 1881.

If anyone out there in wiltshire has a photo of either pubs i would be most grateful.

hi azurich, grey area, adver  dates note always spot on. cow lane  ran parrallel to princes street, where the magistrates court, car park and the police station they knocked down about a year ago. it was just small cottages/houses, demolished late 60/early 70's, regards, john.

hi azurich, sorry , the new hotel is on the other side of princes street to were the police station and cow lane was. the police station was on the corner inbetween prnces st and the older hotel [was the thistle hotel, now something else, can't remember, just drove by it an hour ago!!]the new hotel that they have nearly finished was a car sales and fleming way was the canal. cow lane ran from a point near the canal up to some roads behind the shops at the top of regent st, were the wyvern theatre is now. john.
