Mother died- what happened to 6 yo daughter?
« on: Monday 20 April 09 12:36 BST (UK) »
On 15 October 1899 Hannah Watters died in Broken Hill leaving a daughter, Beatrice Winifred Watters of just 6 years, b 7/2/1893 (no father given on NSW BDM but suspected of being James Thorneycroft).

I have been unable to track Beatrice down to complete my family history.

Does anyone have any clues to a 5 year outstanding problem?

Cheers

John Watters

Have you considered adoption and name change?

Thanks Jamjar, I have thought about adoption but have not had much luck there. As for name change I have searched all Beatrice Winifred in NSW but haven't been able to come up with any matches.

Hello,

You say that the marriage registration refers to another line.

What was her birth year?

Is it at all possible that she was adopted by the family  or fostered with them. Having the same surname would make things a lot easier at that time but more confusing for  later researchers!!

regards

RObyn

Beatrice Winifred was birth registered as Watters with no father's name given on 7 February 1893.

A birthday book shows her birth Beatrice Winifred Watters (Thorneycroft) and there is no marriage of Hannah and Mr. J. Thorneycroft---Samuel Watters husband of Hannah since moved on!!!

I am investigating whether she was adopted by the Thorneycroft family as there seems that there is no record of a Beatrice Winifred in the Watters family.

Cheers

Hi There,

Have you tried searching for deaths? no surname but parents name/s and given names?

might be a hard one as if she was adopted?
