Hi all,

Slightly off track, but could James Thorncraft possibly be the father of that six year old? There is a marriage registered at Bathurst in 1895 to Elizabeth A Hodson or Andson.  (2737/1895) which may lead to that child's birth father.   Children of that marriage seem to have been registered at Wellington, ie further west than Bathurst, but no where near Broken Hill.

Hoping this helps rather than hinders your 5 year search.

Just Moi.

Thanks Just Moi,
I don't think that Thorncraft is a connection as there are a number of Thorncrafts that do not appear to have connections with BH.
Thanks for looking.

Hi,

there are two marriagesfor Hannah Watters

4753/1890      NELLER      DAVID      WATTERS      HANNAH      WEST MAITLAND

2656/1896      VALE      WILLIAM J      WATTERS      HANNAH P      BROKEN HILL

There were at least 5 children of this union none Beatrice. This  Hannah Priscilla nee Watters died in Broken hill in 1938 (25455)

There is a marriage of a Beatrice VALE

3235/1918     BENTLEY      JOHN L  and     VALE     BEATRICE      SYDNEY
3236/1918    BENTLEY   JOHN L    and   VALE    BEATRICE    SYDNEY
can't find a death for her and there is no birth rego for a Beatirce Vale.

It is possible that the two Hannah's were cousins and Beatrice went to live with the VALE family and adopted their surname.

regards

Robyn

Hi Robyn,
The first marriage can be discounted as my Hannah was still married to Samuel Watters in 1890.
The second Hannah is the daughter of Samuel and Hannah.
Thanks for your help

Further to the previous post I will certainly look into the Vale connection.

Hi Robyn,

I have received a transcript for the Beatrice Vale marriage and that lady was born in the UK and is 12 years older than my Beatrice Winifred Watters/Thorneycroft.

I shall have to keep on with this one.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Is there anyone else with some ideas as to my hidden relative's whereabouts?

Cheers

John

John.

Sorrry that it was not the right person, but now you can move on.

On the IGI there is this submission.

BEATRICE WINIFRED WATTERS

Birth:     1892      Moonta, South Australia, Australia

Parents:
 Father:     SAMUEL WATTERS
 Mother:     HANNAH SCOBLE

Can't find who the submitter is.

Perhaps the answers may be found in SA, particularly the marriage as it doesn't seem to show up in NSW. Beatrice may have been sent back to her mother's family in SA??

ALSO CHECKOUT THIS
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/AUS-VIC/2003-05/1053651819

I feel this is your family and the Sarah Watters nee Scoble died NSW 18991899.

Also Hannah Priscillla Watters b 1878 died 1930

and includes this

"Their 4th child Hannah & 6th child Frederick are also listed on the VIC  BDMS."

which I will check on as could only find

WATTERS Alb Ernest
Father: Watters Samuel Mother: Anna  SCOBLE
Death Place: FROY
Age: 71Year: 1949 # 087

Also has mention of VALE in Broken Hill as a next of kin in WW1 service records.

regards

Robyn
