completed mills family
« on: Wednesday 22 April 09 14:54 BST (UK) »
I am seeking any information on Alexander and Emily(Webb) Mills who lived in St Peter Port Guernsey until 1859 when they emigrated to New Zealand with their children on the "Robert Small". Their son, James Edward Mills was my g-g-g grandfather who was 18 when they left. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to put together a family tree for my grandmother

thank you for your reply. I am wondering why the 1841 census shows John Mills and the 1851 census shows Alexander Mills

No idea but here are some submitted IGI entries - it's a proven fact you should never rely on submitted entries because according to these 2 - Emily is a miracle mum

Alexander Charles MILLS   Birth:  10 MAR 1841    Saint Peter Port, Guernsey  Death:  20 SEP 1919

Father:  Alexander MILLS   Mother:  Emily WEBB

James Edward Mills   Birth:  23 APR 1841    Saint Peter Port, Guernsey  Death:  1919
Father:  Alexander Mills    Mother:  Emily Webb

Cornelia was Sarah Cornelia according to the IGI

PARENT SEARCH ON IGI

www.familysearch.org - On home page - click on  “Advanced Search” to the right of the SEARCH button

Select “International Genealogical Index” from the left hand menu

Input fathers name and surname BUT only put mothers christian name as not all entries have the maiden name

REGION – select British Isles from the menu

COUNTRY – select one or “All countries”

COUNTY (will appear when you select COUNTRY)  – select whichever matches what you know about the family

Click SEARCH

thank you for your reply. I did see the different dates of birth for Alexander and James, would love to know what the real story was! Just like the different names on the census.

Hi Harley08, I am the x6 great-grand daughter of Alexander Mills born in Fermanagh Ireland. Your ancestor Alexander Mills who married Emily Webb is brother to my George John eldest child in the family. Look forward to hearing from you. Alison

Hi Alison

It is so great to hear from you. What information do you have about Alexander and his family? All I know is what is on the census and what ship they left Guernsey on. I have a form to fill out for the family history library in Guernsey to get any records they may have but as yet I haven't filled it out and sent it off. They made their way to Christchurch in New Zealand but after that I can't seem to find any more.

Hope to hear from you soon

Jenni (Harley08)
