Sorry I clicked the wrong button before.

The biggest coal mines in Ireland in that period were at Castle Comber, Co Kilkenny.

Looks like I might be confusing someone, to clarify.
Mt Great Grandfather Patrick Conoughton or Conorton he also used the name Connerton at times and always in the USA.
Patrick was born in Ireland but all I have found is his note in England that he was born at Castle Parish Durham which is wrong  he was born in Ireland as shown by all his records in the USA and he and he family's word.
I will now attach what info I have available about Patrick Conoughton born 3/21/1840 Castle Parish Ireland,  Patrick Connaughton and Sarah Rollason.  Patrick’s surname was spelt Connorton and the marriage was registered in the December quarter of 1873.  You may, of course, already have the certificate, but in case not, you can order it from the General Register Office online – www.gro.gov.uk – and the reference you need to quote is 6b 1236.
Details of 1881 Census:
Patrick Conoughton, 46 at the time of the 1881 Census, born in Castle Parish , Ireland  Details of 1881 Census:

Patrick Conoughton, 46 at the time of the 1881 Census, born in Castle Parish , Ireland
Sarah Conoughton 47 at the time of the 1881 Census, born in Darlaston, Staffordshire
Samuel Conoughton, step son 16 at the time of the 1881 Census born in Walsall , Staffordshire
Sarah Conoughton, step daughter 13 at the time of the 1881 Census born in James Bridge , Staffordshire
Mary Conoughton daughter 8 at the time of the 1881 Census, born in Walsall , Staffordshire
Thomas Conoughton, son, 6 at the time of the 1881 Census, born in Walsall , Staffordshire
Catherine Conoughton, daughter, 3 at the time of the 1881 Census, born in Walsall Staffordshire
The family moved to USA Patrick worked as a bank officer and died in Chicago, Il
So I am looking for a Castle Parish Ireland or any spelling that might be close .
I see that Griffiths show Conoughtons in Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Sligo, Galway, Monaghan and Cavan
Thank you so much I will try looking at castle kinkenny, Erick
Can anyone recommend where to look.

Hello,
do you have Patrick's marriage certificate - that would be a good place to start as it would give you his father's name.
It is going to be a difficult task, however.

1871 RG10; Piece: 2961; Folio: 50; Page: 10
Walsall
has a Thomas Connerton 23 yrs with his wife Ellen lodging with a Turner family.
Thomas' place of birth is Longford, Ireland.

Free BMD has a marriage for Thomas Connorton 1869- possible spouse Ellen White.

Thomas may be related and the marriage certificates would give clues re fathers' details and witness names which often can help too.

Hi,
Looks like it could have been a relative, I did pay a lady Aoife LA to retrieve and send me the Weding certificate.
She e-mailed me this:This is what is stated.

marriage date 8th Dec. 1873   Patrick Connorton and Sarah Rollorson  (Batchelor and Widow) Patrick a Colliery labourer.

Both living at Red Lion Street, Walsall.

Father of Patrick  -  Leighton Connorton    - weaver

Father of Sarah - James  Redy (looks like Redy) - Waggoner

Marriage took place at St Patrick's R.C. Walsall.

The couple make their mark  X.

Witnesses - Patrick Carroll and what looks like Mary Banton.

Slán, Aoife.

XXXX
However she has ne3ver mailed me the Certificate and I am not sure of her worthyness as she has never replied.
Erick

That seems an unusual name for the father.

Griffiths Valuation http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_results.php?familyname=connaughton&firstname=&countyname=&submit=Start+Searching
has Connaughtons in Cashel, Longford.

I don't want to raise y our hopes - there is a Lacky Connaughton in Cashel, Longford in Griffiths.
I have tried to find the meaning of this name - seems to be associated with 'Laughlin' surname which with your eyes half shut and your head at the right angle could possibly be 'Leighton'  ::)
