Freeware software
« on: Tuesday 28 April 09 14:48 BST (UK) »
Hi.
Was wondering if this program was suitable for beginners.
My old eyes are not the best so it would not be for my use, but I've noticed others who would like to dip their toes in the water, so it may be of use to them.

The best available free (open source) image manipulation software is probably Gimp (www.gimp.org). In some ways, this is superior to top end packages and is now even used by many professionals.

My personal advice though, would be to buy an older version of Photoshop. The current version is CS4 but CS2 is more than adequate for most uses and is excellent value (with masses of online tutorials which is enough reason on its own).

I am surprised no one has mentioned the GIMP GNU Image Manipulation Program. If you have not used a program before and have no knowledge of them then has to be the one, firstly its free and updated regularly and as good as photoshop!.

try http://www.gimp.org/ its great and if your not stuck in stone using another program learn this one! Forums and support and how to's, you cant go wrong.
