Dickens Terrace was incorporated into or renamed Wainscott road in the 1950's. As far as I know what was Dicken's Terrace stretched from the School towards Frindsbury. My grandparents lived at 27 next to the shop that was known as Martins, was renamed Kendals and has now gone. 27 is now 109 Wainscott Road.

Hope this helps.

Hello Flying Toad

Thanks for that. My great grandparents lived at No. 22 and one of my great uncles lived a No. 31 for a while. I wonder given that you say that No. 27 is now 109 Wainscott Road if I can work out what the current numbers for No.'s 22 and 31 are.

Scintilla,

According to my mother we had relatives at 31 Dickens (Arnold) from 1923 to 1961 and that was renumbered 101 Wainscott Road.

Hello Flying Toad

Thanks for that, much appreciated. That ties in with the dates I have for my great uncle living at No. 31. He gave that address when his children were baptised at Frindsbury church in 1918 and 1921, so when he moved out your relatives moved in. If the numbering is a straight forward relationship them from what you have given me I think No. 22 would now be No. 119 Wainscott Road. My great grandparents would have overlapped with your relatives because they moved out when my great grandfather died in 1938 (their name was King).

Hi,

No problem, 27 were the Harris family, my mother moving out in the 1950's on marriage and her parents staying until their deaths in the 1960's. The Arnolds at 31 were the in-laws and likewise remained til they died. Oddly enough just last week I was in conversation with a chap from work who I lift share with; we work in different departments, live 16 miles apart and were introduced by a third party; it transpires that his mother is about a year younger than mine, grew up in Higham Road, Wainscott and they knew each other as small girls. Small world.

Hi, I dunno if I am replying properly here, but I lived opposite Dickens Terrace in Wainscott in the 50s/60s. Mr and Mrs Cobley lived in Dickens Terrace with my friend Ronnie Cobley and at least two sisters.

I lived in Frittenden Road opposite Dickens Terrace. I lived opposite the Cobley family including my pal the late Ronnie Cobley. Boy, we had some fun together growing up in Wainscott.
