as an example, on the 1851 census of Llanbadarn Fawr, Cardiganshire , there's a couple of pages of people who were apparently born in Bath, Cards. It should, of course, be Borth. And that's only a 5 letter word with a vowel.    :o
So, some of the longer place names or ones that would appear to any eye trained to read English names to not have a vowel - the likes of Cwmtwrch - are going to be rather challenging.

jennyrob, the article I read in Ancestors didn't give a reason for the transcribing being done in the Philippines. But, I imagine it would be a question of cost.

Central cardiff will be missing from the census apparently. See below.

All of the original household pages have survived, but some of the Enumerators’ Summary books (RG78s), relating to the following counties and registration sub-districts, are missing from the archives:

Buckinghamshire: Amersham

Cambridgeshire: Leverington, Walpole St Peter

Devonshire: Okehampton

Cheshire: Lymm, Budworth, Runcorn

Glamorganshire: Central Cardiff

Leicestershire: Lutterworth

Lincolnshire (unspecified registration sub-districts)

Somersetshire: Keynsham, Long Ashton

Staffordshire: Repton, Tamworth

Warwickshire: Atherstone

Yorkshire, West Riding: Norton

This means that they will never be available online, and the original household page will be the only page that you receive when you pay for an image.

It also means that in a small number of cases you will not be able to locate a household through the ‘residential place’ field by using certain names such as the civil parish, as these were transcribed from the enumerators' summary books to power the search function.
Casaubon (Geneva, London), Daulinge, Berners, McMullen (Nottingham), Tabb (Leics), Mycock (Derbys & Staffs), Gilbert (Notts), Price (s Wales), Krilovs/similar, gypsy Roberts, gypsy Clark, Bexell (Sussex), gypsy Elliott, Raven, Neligan (Co Kerry), Rymer, Newton (Hull).

Good News - According to The National Archives June e-mail newsletter: "Great news for family historians - the 1911 census records for Wales should be available later this week."

Fingers crossed!

Further to Acceber's post,  some at least of the Welsh counties now seem to be live online -- just searched in cos. Denbigh and Merioneth.
