Could somebody please confirm that Auty and Ruddock ran a photography studio at 20 Front Street, Tynemouth specifically in 1871-3 taking family portraits including children? This will help greatly in confirming an "unknown " child in the attached photograph? Thanks very much. Lumber-Jack

Matthew Auty and the studio  on Front Street is mentioned here http://www.fgillings.freeserve.co.uk/village.htm but no definite date is given.

This site however suggests he didn't open the studio until the 1880's. http://www.worldofstereoviews.com/autypage.htm

Thanks Jen for being such a great help!. It looks like my last reply to you and this thread did not make it. Your references would suggest that Auty and Ruddock ( and not even Auty alone) were not operating a family portrait photography business at 20 Front Street between 1871-73 when this picture of this child, who we thought was Christiana Cook (born 1871 in Tyneside), would have been taken. All other evidence points to it being her. I have attached the back of the same photo which states Auty and Ruddock of 20 Front Street and gives a reference number of 7287. Can anyone date this photo from this information? Thanks very much, Lumber-Jack

Hi Lumber-Jack...this gorgeous little doll would restore beautifully and I know the restorers including me..would love to have a go at it.... but you would need to request it.

Oh-Dear, she is not a doll but the real thing! And perhaps the co-founder of an Australian dynasty if we can get the photo dated accurately. But thanks....we think she is beautiful too! She may be called Christiana or Euphemia.... both wonderful names. Lumber-Jack
