Daniel Daly & wife Julia Kavanagh
« on: Sunday 24 May 09 10:26 BST (UK) »
Daniel Daly married Julia Kavanagh (1873 Drumcondra).

In 1911 they lived  50 Botanic Avenue (South Side), Glasnevin, North Dublin. He was a builder and is believed to have (later) become a Town (or City) Councillor

Julia's parents (Michael Kavanagh and Mary ??) had other children before migrating to Liverpool ~1868-70:
Thomas
Mary Esther
John
Agnes

I need help in finding where Julia and her siblings were born and the surname of their mother, etc.
Liverpool, Ireland, Devon, Cambridge, Southampton, Lincolnshire

according to the 1911 census return Julia and Daniel were married about 1875 .. so the marriage should be included in the Civil Registers.

The Irish Civil Index can be searched at familysearch : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

research certs can be ordered from the GRO using the reference numbers from the index : www.groireland.ie

a marriage cert will give you bride & grooms occupations & residences, brides maiden name, father's names & occupations etc

Since Daniel was born in Co. Kilkenny and Julia in Dublin City - both places would seem possible places for the marriage, but seeing as all the children were born in Dublin, that is probably the place to start the marriage search.

A quick search shows two Daniel Daly marriages in the Dublin area around the right time - one in 1873 in Dublin North and the other in 1876 in Rathdown. (Dublin North registration district covers north city, Rathdown includes south city suburbs and county)

Hi there, I just stumbled across this posting by chance when looking for something else and am now very curious. I am Daniel Daly's great grandson and live at Hillsboro, Botanic Avenue! Looking forward to hearing from you to see connection and follow-up on exploration of family history. All best wishes, John Daly

there's a possible cross match for that 1873 marriage on the BMD Index :

  Name: Daniel Daly
  Registration district:   Dublin North
  Event type: Marriage
  Registration year: 1873
  Volume: 17 / Page: 583

  Name: Julia Kavanagh
  [same references as Daniel]

A cert would give their father's names and occupations and help you work back further. You can order certs from the GRO by post, or from their research room in Abbey St.

see :

  Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon
Details included on a Marriage Cert

a possible baptism for a child of Daniel and Julia in St. Agatha's parish the year after their marriage. Their address at the time is 35 Frederick St.

Baptism of Mary Ellen Daly - 1874

I dont see a Mary Ellen on the 1901 or 1911 return... maybe she was one of the children that didn't survive.

Daly household 1911    Daly household 1901

some Thom's listings for Daniel :

1927 - Danl. Daly, builder, 52 Botanic Ave., Hillsborough

1914 - Danl. Daly, builder,  Hillsborough, Botanic Ave., Glasnevin
(listed in a section at the beginning of the Ave.
            separate to those with numbers)

1906 & 1899 - Daniel Daly, builder, Hillsborough, Botanic Ave.,  Glasnevin

1891 - the only Daniel Daly listed in the trades index is a grocer at 18 Berkley Rd... maybe your Daniel was working for someone else at that time...

extracted birth records from FamilySearch for some of the older children :

   Daly / Kavanagh births

No sign of the marriage that I see in the extracted collection, or on IrishGenealogy, so probably will require a civil cert to establish the details.
