Hepburn,

Thank you so very much for the links you posted.
Certainly looks like that is my family.  I am so excited to be able to find family so far back.  George & Betty are my GGGGgrandparents.

Again thank you ;D

On searching through the Free Reg for my Carpenter family, have found the baptism of Robert Carpenter.  He was baptised the same day as a brother Martin Carpenter my ggg grandfather..........could these two be twins??

The file numbers are 5489 for Martin and 5560 for Robert........with different file no's could it be that they were just baptised the same day??

I not there is a birth date for Martin but none for Robert.  Would the file # give the birth info or is what is on Free reg all this is available on the original record??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Barbara :)

Snip

Barbara :)

The reason for multiple baptisms of children on the same day can be because of the vicar's, "drumming up business" after the bishop perhaps had had a word with him during his annual visitation and even, "n for the price of x" I dare say ;D

I have found, in my wanderings through church records, that baptism registers often give that a family's two children baptised on the same day were twins.  I do not know if the terms of reference for FreeReg data copying say that such info should be given, perhaps you should contact them to find out.

Chas

Hi Barbara,

I transcribe for FreeReg and we are told to write in the Notes if siblings are down as twins on the PRs.  Also, I have discovered that twins usually share the same Registration number (this is from 1813 of course when the 'new style' registration pages were introduced).

The file numbers at the bottom of the page don't have anything to do with the actual information gleaned from the PRs - the file number is just that, the number of the file that was loaded onto the database.

Hope that helps.

Maggie  :)

Thank you for that Maggie.

I did wonder if Robert was actually born in 1808, his parents  had him baptised and decided to baptise older brother Martin at the same time.
