Jimmy Morgan
« on: Friday 12 June 09 20:36 BST (UK) »
~~~~~~~~
I'm looking for any info about James (Jimmy) Morgan.  He married Edith Boyle in Barrhead Renfrewshire around 1940.  he was a football goalie and played for Arthurlie football club, barrhead.
He was in the RAF and was lost in action  in WW2 in a practice flight off the south of England - I think he was a rear gunner.  His remains were never found and Edith, my aunt hoped and waited for him to back.  It destroyed her life and as a child I couldn't understand why she was such a bitter, depressed person.
Help please!
Hi Irene
I've looked in my football book but he's not mentioned  :(
Have you tried contacting the club:
http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/arthurlieutdafc/contact.pl
They don't seem to have much history up on the site but someone might know of his record.
Also, do you know roughly how old he was?
Regards
Oh my god!  thank you so much for this information.  Although I never knew Jimmy he sounded such a wonderful character, always playing practical jokes - and my aunt edith loved him so much.
THANKS
Irene
I've been trying to find marriages for James Morgan, snr and an Eli(zabeth) but none in Renfrew. Two possibles in Lanarkshire but  :-\
No good hits on a birth for James/Jimmy either - some possibles but not enough to be sure  :-\
SP is being slow/down at the moment  :(
I was referring to Jimmy's parents' marriage - from the info that Falkyrn found, his parents were James and Elizabeth Morgan.
Not sure about info on his death. I think it would be worth going to the Commonwealth War Graves site that Falkyrn gave the link to:
http://www.cwgc.org/debt_of_honour.asp?menuid=14
There might also be a service record. I'll see if I can find something but it might be worth you putting up a query on our Armed Forces board:
there are some very good military specialists on there  :)
has views of the Runnymede RAF Memorial where the CWGC say that James is commemorated.
Quote
A memorial to more than 20,000 aircrew of the Royal Air Force and Commonwealth Air Forces who died in the second world war and who have no known grave. It takes the form of a quadrangle of cloisters, approached by a long drive leading to three arches, opposite the main tower. The names of the aircrew are inscribed on tablets lining the walls of the cloisters.
As James is not listed on the Barrhead memorial it is more than likely as you say that he was not from the town.
Irene, Jimmy Morgan sounds very much like my Grandfather! I wonder if it is the same person. I know very little of him or my grandmother. Their children were James, Edith, Gerard and Elizabeth?
