Birmingham School in 1851
« on: Friday 25 February 05 17:48 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a Rosanna Barnett born 1836/7 in Birmingham and think I've found her on the 1851 Census.
She is shown as a scholar at 18, Temple Row along with 100 plus other children, the Head being the Reactor of St. Phillip.
Does anyone know whether this was an orphanage as I can't trace her father
William(don't know her mothers name) ?
Rosannah married 3 years later when she would have only been 16 or 17.I have her marriage certificate which shows her as a minor, also it doesn't state that her father William was deceased, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't.
There are several William Barnett's who died in Birmingham between 1837/1851
so can't be sure
So back to question -was St Phillips an orphanage or does anyone know anything about it ?

Many thanks
Sandra

Sandra - did a Google search for Birmingham Schools and came up with this...have you seen it?
www.missing-ancestors.com  looks like a good place to start.

Suey,

Thanks for that - I wasn't aware of the site.
Can't see any reference to St. Philips but I have sent an EMail to the originator of the web-site to see if she knows anything of it.

Thanks for going to the trouble

Kind Regards
Sandra
