The Ebenezer chapel was there, and four crosses became a part of Blaenau years ago,  I suppose you knew that much.......but all I can find, sorry ???

Thank you for the information Heitch. No, I don't know anything about Four Crosses apart from it being in the Blaenau Ffestiniog area as shown on my ancestors 1871 census record. Regards, Cynfran

Thanks Heitch for the interesting link. Even though it doesn't give the Four Crosses location it was great seeing the pictures. They took me back to the exact year that I was living there and the one of the station reminded me of all the mornings that I used to have to run to catch the seven am train!

Hi Cynfran,
To quote (in translation) a relevant piece of G. J. Williams' exhaustive history of the area, 'Hanes Plwyf Ffestiniog o'r Cyfnod Boreuaf'  (A History of the Parish of Ffestiniog from the Earliest Times) pub.Hughes and Son, Wrexham, about 1880:
'Four Crosses: This is a comparatively recent name. This area is reckoned to reach from Tabernacle Chapel as far as Blaenau market . . . The name of Four Crosses was given to the area when a road was laid in Lord Street, as a continuation of the old Cwmbywydd road, so as to form a crossroads with the road leading from Bethania to Rhiwbryfdir. Four Crosses is the location of the chief shops to be seen in Blaenau. Here also there are two banks, namely 'The North and South Wales Bank' and the 'District Bank'. There are in this part three Solicitors' Offices, namely those of Ellis, Breese, and Jones.'
Today, I think, the Four Crosses of 1880 would be best described as the western part of the High Street, from the Queen's Hotel as far as the site of the old Tabernacle. I think the name survived into the 20th Century as an address.
                                     Pinot

Thank you for that Pinot, I recognise the area that you described and in fact we walked through it on a visit a couple of years ago, if only I'd known!

I am a new member and came accross this old question about Capel Ebenezer and Four Crosses in the Blaenau Ffestiniog area.  My family are from that area and I also have some down the road in Fourcrosses Pwllheli (known as "Y Ffôr" in Welsh).  I believe that the chapel is caled Ebenezer in that village. It is not very far away, can that be where your searching for?

Hello and welcome Llwyddiant. Yes, I was originally just trying to find the location of 'Four Crosses' in Blaenau as that was where my great grandfather had a shop in the 1870's. regards, cynfran
