« on: Friday 26 June 09 12:14 BST (UK) »
Would anybody know what sort of a place 10 Albyn Place, Edinburgh was in 1901.  My distant rele, Christina WAY was a caretaker, along with a Charles Wilson (caretaker) and his family.

Albyn Place continues from the end of Queen Street at the Charlotte Square end. It is in the New Town and a very nice, expensive place to be!

If you go on Google Maps and enter "10 albyn place edinburgh", then click on the "streetmap" link it will show you the building.

The 1904 Edinburgh & Leith Post Office Directory shows that 10 Albyn Place was then the offices of a firm of solicitors - Messrs Simpson & Lawson.

Thanks,

I checked out the street view.  I wonder if that might be the same building that was there in 1901?

It is the same building. The New Town was built over 100 years before that, and it has not changed a great deal. Albyn place is on some pretty old maps.

http://www.nls.uk/maps/towns/detail.cfm?id=420

It was Listed in 1970. According to that listing it was designed in 1822.
