MAPCO Website : Free High Quality Kent Maps Online
« Reply #1 on: Sunday 28 June 09 07:18 BST (UK) »
Hello All.

I am writing to introduce a free online map website, designed to assist family historians.

For those who are not familiar with the website, it is:

MAPCO : Map And Plan Collection Online
http://mapco.net

Of particular interest to Kent researchers will be:

Map Of Map Of North West Kent 1789
Taken From 'The Country Twenty-Five Miles Round London Planned From A Scale Of One Mile To An Inch' By William Faden

** With Full Place Name Search **
http://mapco.net/kent1789/kent1789.htm

An Entirely New & Accurate Survey Of The County Of Kent, With Part Of The County Of Essex, by William Mudge, 1801.
** With Full Place Name Search **
http://mapco.net/kent1801/kent1801.htm

A New Topographical Map Of The Country In The Vicinity Of London, Describing All The New Improvements, Metropolitan Boroughs And Parish Boundaries 1872.
http://mapco.net/wyld1872/wyld1872.htm

plus many more. These maps are displayed at a very high resolution, and are very easy to navigate. The search facility on the 1789 and 1801 maps is a great bonus for Kent researchers. The 1801 map is a 'must see'!

Enjoy!

At maps.nls.uk you will find complete coverage of old Ordnance Survey maps for England at 6" to 1 mile, and complete coverage of Kent at 25" to 1 mile - typically 3 maps per district between ~1870 and 1910.
