Where does the date of birth come from

Can i just point out that Rainford and Wigan are two totally different places about seven miles apart. Rainford has never been linked to Wigan. It was a sub-chapelry of Prescot and now comes under St. Helens for Civil Registration purposes. Looking for Richard Ashcroft you may need to search in both places.
