Bit of a quandary, having just received my 3 X grandfathers Marriage Cert, One John Charles Everett 21, a Seaman, by occupation, to one Sarah Jane Williams on 26/04/1870, it obviously names my 4 X grandfathers, namely one Edward Everett whose occupation is given as Architect, as the majority of my Ancestors are Agricultural Laborers, Laborers or Navel Personnel it was a pleasant surprise, but having difficulty locating an Edward Everett with an occupation as a Architect in any of the Census's, prior to this date or future dates, as John Charles was I believe born in London, about 1850, but married in Hartlepool, I am presuming that Edward was working in London, would anyone know of anyway to find records of Architects of this period, as I am assuming an Architect would have been quite a prestigious occupation at that time.

The Scottish Dictionary of Architects has a Maurice Everett Webb "of London", born 1880, but gives no more detail apart from the names of three others he nominated for RIBA associateships in the 1920's and 30's - Samuel Davidson, Basil Ionides and Thomas Smith Shearer.

By 1860s in Yorkshire those who wished to become architects were articled to an exisiting architect and worked under his direction. This was the case for my grandfather- his obit helpfully mentioned the name of the man to whom he'd been articled which is how I learned about this process. I imagine there were exams somewhere along the line before they were accredited?
But the question remains as to how your chap got himself articled and then accredited. charlotte
