Complete- Found Dead in a Room
« on: Saturday 04 July 09 15:11 UTC (UK) »

Hi my ancestor "was found dead in a room" in Smethwick and an inquest was held at Stafford  on the  8th May 1891.

Which, if any, local newspaper would have reported it and where would the coroners report be now?

Any help much appreciated

Hi,

It the report survived it will probably be in the County Record Office; if not then the staff should be able to tell you which local newspapers would have had an item about it.

Good Luck!

Hi Bigslick, would have been the Staffordshire Advertiser, back copies are held at the Wm Salt Library Stafford.  HTH from Linell.

Many thanks will look there. I thought because the event happened in Smethwick it might have been reported there in (what i now think is) the Smethwick Telephone.

have you tried a search here

http://newspapers.bl.uk/blcs/advancedSearch.do

it is a pay per view site with some Midland newspapers

I have found that some events I was searching for appeared in newspapers not in the area the event took place, so worth a try
