Help with census please COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 05 July 09 12:26 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
Can some kind soul have a look at a census for me, and help me to transcribe what it says.
William Bowering b 1813

1871 Census  Fleet Dorset, Subdistrict Weymouth
RG10   Piece2004    Folio 53  Page 7

On Williams line the very end column, Does it read 'Invalid Cancer'

Also William's Son Frederick has an annotation after the relation column in the Condition column.  I am not sure what this reads at all.  ??? could it be unmarried?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Chris

I'd say it says "Invalid with Cancer".

I think the son's entry does say "Unmarried"

Thanks Nick, I appreciate your time,

and Geoff I am not sure if that is my William or not as he would of been 63 at the time of his death
Thanks

You shouldn't discount the death record because of the wrong age.  It would really depend on who was the informant - the registrar will write whatever the informant tells them, and sometimes inaccuracies occur, especially when the informant was not close to the deceased.  You need to get the certificate, and see who the informant was.

I was just wondering how quickly his cancer took its toll.  I can't see anyone else in the Weynouth district it could have been.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Thanks Nick and Geoff.  I wasn't discounting it all, sorry if I gave that impression, I just hadn't had a look at the death info...i was just trying to find them in all the census first.
I really appreciate the help.  also is it usual for those innotations to be made as it is the first time I have seen anything like that written on a census
Cheers
