As the LDS site is quite often overloaded or down "due to maintenance", there is another site with lots of records, mostly as a pay per view, but the 1881 census is FREE!

Website has now ceased 2002-2009

Did the LDS have the 1881 census for Scotland online? I am sure, in the past I had  seen it, or am I going nuts! I have just spent the last half hour searching there, no wonder I couldnt find my family!

Is there any place you can search for Scotland for free or just scotlandspeople?

Thanks, Ele

Help.  In looking up families in the 1881 census when they are plit over two pages how can you get to see the full family when you don't know their names?

Hi Andrew

Welcome, what website are you using to access the 1881 census?

If you are using one of the subscription sites there is usually the ability to go next or previous if the family is split over 2 images.  Family search is a transcription only and has the whole household on the same page  http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Thanks Andy,
I was using Scotlandspeople and although they had icons to go back or move forward a page these did not function.  I have used sites for English/Welsh censuses which did but the Scots no.
Advice welcome.

Hi

I can't recall the 1881 Scottish census specifically although I think its slightly different from the other years (when I was last on it there were no images) but do you have enough credits? When you go next or previous you are using credits
