Do you know where this Church is?
« on: Saturday 11 July 09 15:17 BST (UK) »
Hi,
We inherited these large framed photos from a great aunt. They come from a house located in North Cornwall so maybe in Cornwall or Devon. They have been in the house for well over 100 years. We would like to know where it is if anyone can help.

Can you tell us where the house is located in Cornwall?

This site may be useful to use - working out from the house location.

Thank you for the suggestion, the house is near Egloskerry/Tresmeer, we have looked at this and haven't managed to find the church.

Do you think they are of the same church ??

The windows in pic 1 are totally different to those in pic 2 ...
and the door can't be the one in the south porch so if they are the same church, then that door would be in the base of the tower, on the west end probably ...

The problem is all that vegetation may no longer be on the tower.  Unless we can find old photos, the church may not look the same anymore at all.  The gravestones are quite thin - may indicate slate.

As an aside, almost all Cornish churches have towers rather than spires - an observation my family have come to in recent years.  We tried hard to find a medieval Cornish church with a spire, other than St Keverne which has a spire on the tower (! just for good measure).  The only other spire we have ever come across is at Biscovey (http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/143496), but I think that is Victorian.
