Hi all
I am looking for John Merry or Merrie and a Ann Margaret Smith ( I think she use the name Margaret for her first name )
they married in Ochiltree, Ayr, Scotland 1831
Children Peter Merry born about 1830 in Tarbolton Mauchlin Ayrshire
I think they had a few other children
William , George , Agnes, John but not 100% sure
any help I would be so grateful

I think this is them in 1841. I think their address is the old spelling of the current village, Mossblown. I couldn't see anything for Peter in Ayrshire.

If your Peter married Mary Allan then here he is in 1851 livng at Shotts-

Peter Murray     22 born Mauchline
Mary Murray    19
William Allan    14

Although Hume definitely has the right family of John Merry and Margaret Smith I'm not convinced they are the family of Peter.

If you have a look at FREECEN for 1841 you will find a Peter Murray age 10 at Mauchline. There are another 2 of the right age living at Shotts but they were born at Lanarkshire.

Where did you get his parent's info?

Agree, not sure if surname is the right one (Merry v. Murray). There is no Peter Merry(ie) showing in 1841/51 connected the family that Hume posted from Jan's info in these early censuses

This looks like Peter and Mary in 1861:


Peter Merrey 31, iron puddler b. Mauchline
Mary Merrey 29, b. Muirkirk Ayr

Address: 7 Baird's Land, Old Monkland

And then in 1871:

Peter Marry 41, iron puddler, b. Muirkirk

Not sure where the children are in the 1861 entry, either the transcript has cut them off (!) or they were elsewhere for that entry.

here is the info I have

Peter merry was born in Tarbolton Mauchlin Ayrshire Scotland about 1830
he married Mary Allan about 1850
died in 28 Jan 1888  13, King Street, Motherwell.Lanarkshire Scotland ( from his death cert) thats were i got his parnets names

Hard to link Peter on the early censuses to that family 

There is an 1855 birth cert for Peter and Mary that may help with more info:

JOHN MERRY  Birth: 06 MAY 1855  Shotts, Lanark

All the children's birth regs. (post 1855) are under Merry.
