Bray, Wicklow, Lookup of births needed- COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 14 July 09 11:08 BST (UK) »
I am looking for someone who can do look ups of orginal birth reords in Bray.

I am looking for the children of Charles Toole Esq and Mary Helena Bourke/Burke.

Around the 1840's/50's - children names are William, Luke born I think 1848, Edmund born 1849, Peter, Lawrence.

Can anyone help me with this request.

Thank you in advance for any replies.
House - Brockenhurst, Rockbourne, Newbury, Thatcham 1500-1850's.
O'Toole - Dublin and Newcastles upon Tyne.

Civil registration of births only started in 1864 so it is church baptismal records you need (if they still exist)- do you know the name of the church? If so there are places you ould check to see if the records cover the period you are looking for.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Churches near Bray - sorry don't know of the names of any of the churches there.
I only know one or two of the family was later buried at St. Andrew's church in Dublin.

Thanks.

Bray RC parish records are available on the Irish Family History Foundation website at : www.irish-roots.ie  the index is free to search once you register.  I believe the records are a complete extract of the Bray parish as per microfilm no  P.9371 in the NLI

there does not seem to be a good match for the names you mention

Luke     15 matches in Co. Wicklow, none for Bray parish

William  9 matches  in Bray parish, but none have father listed as Charles

Edmund  no matches in Co. Wicklow

Peter   4 matches in Bray parish, but none have father listed as Charles

Lawrence  no matches in Bray parish

I found Wilfort House and it is actually in south Co. Dublin. The county border is the river Dargle which runs along the northern edge of the town. The area just north of this is known as 'Little Bray'. Nearby is Corke Abbey and then the Old Connaught road which runs just south of Wilfort House.

The house still exists and is included on a Buildings of Ireland website - see : http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/cgi-bin/viewsite.cgi?siteid=2571

google satellite view : http://www.rootschat.com/links/06pd/
the marker is at Corke Abbey, Wilfort house is just above the motorway exit, near to the small roundabout.

this may explain the lack of promising Toole matches in the Bray parish records, as the RC parish for the Old Connaught area is Little Bray, Co. Dublin

unfortunately not many RC records seem to have survived for Little Bray, as the NLI microfilm (P.9372) listing only contains baptisms from Dec. 27, 1891 to May 25, 1898.

I wonder if St Peter's, Little Bray was there in 1840s/1850s?

It might be worth getting on to them and asking what was the parish  Church at that time. It might have been Bray, or maybe Cabinteeley, or ....?

In John Grenhams book, his map shows Kingstown and Sandyford R.C. parishes going all the way south to the Wicklow county border.

Births may also be under Dubin if not at Little Bray.
