Location of grave in Bromsgrove
« on: Tuesday 14 July 09 20:06 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate a family grave in Bromsgrove - does anyone have access to this information, please?

I think I can purchase a CD with details on, however thought I would ask the question before going ahead.

Victor is correct.  The History Centre holds this information.  I'm pretty sure they've got burial plans for Bromsgrove's St John the Baptist church.  Link below:

Hi Sharon,

The CD is county wide so useful if you have several deaths to chase.  Available on-line from BMSGH whose member's went around the graveyards.  http://bmsgh-shop.org.uk/

The cemetery is now managed from Redditch, (sharing resources).  New contact details are on the Bromsgrove branch  website forum page http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=7&func=view&catid=8&id=83

You didn't say which names you were chasing in Bromsgrove.

Thanks Mike,

I did pop into the history centre last week, however as it was a totally unplanned unexpected visit, I had no details with me, so even though I had a good look on the fishe I couldnt find what I was looking for!

I am actually after my Gt Gt Grandmothers grave... she being Elizabeth Sarah STILES, nee Fortnam.
She was born in Feckenham, March 1848 and died Bromsgrove March 1938.

My Mum remembers visiting her grave as a child and from memory thinks she went up some steep steps to the "family plot" which was surrounded by railings!

If you can help at all I would really appreciate it..
Thanks again - Sharon

Hi Sharon,

The ONLY steep steps at St. John's are from the Kidderminster Road up to the west entrance to the church.  (Use an on-line map with satellite imagery.)  The graveyard here has been closed for a very long time.  Leaving by one of the now tarmac paths and crossing Church Lane gets you to the main newer section.  From that section there is another across Church Road.

However, the "Family plot", with railings, does sound more like the closed section.  Perhaps the "Family Plot" is not the same as Elizabeth Sarah STYLES' plot.

I suggest you contact the Redditch office.

Hi,

The steps to the church from St John's Street that go from opposite where the market hall was (somewhere by the pub that used to be the Shoulder of Mutton) are pretty steep too  :)
