Hi Abbey Grange was an Abbey building associated with St Werberghs in Chester........ it had monks living there from way back when.............it could be the building you are looking for. It has a Monks Cottage nearby and the Abbey Grange is the more luxurious home that house monks and people from the church. Could it be they also had Nun's and it was some kind of orphanage at one time. It is currently for sale on Rightmove as Abbey Grange, Bridle Road, Wirral, CH62 if you wanted to get a closer look at it. Good luck with your search. There is a fair bit written about the area as far back as 900 ad so it will keep you busy. x

Hi Pluto
Welcome to Rootschat and thank you for replying to my old post re Abbey Grange. I never did find out what my people were doing there so this could be the catalyst to get me looking into that branch of the family again. I'll certainly have a look on Rightmove to see details although I'm certain it will be out of my price range!
