Admaston 1 or 2?
« on: Saturday 18 July 09 10:11 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the birth of my 3X gt grandfather
William HALL born (from censuses) 1798 in Admaston Shropshire
Genuki had the village of Admaston is SW of Wellington but my maps show a village of that name NW of Wellington NE of Wrockwardine.
Are there two villages with the same name?
Both Wellington and Wrockwardine have been covered by the IGI and neither has a William 1798 + - 2 years Can anyone suggest where else I can look please?

Hi Trees  :)

Not sure which link you've used on Genuki because I've just checked and it puts it in the 'normal' place - NW of Telford and Wellington.

If you've used the same map as me, when I zoomed in the red marker moves up to the correct place. At the smaller scale it does look SW but is not.

Regards

Zoom in and you'll see it's position just above Wrockwardine

Hi Gadget,
All my maps show NW but this Genuki link for Wrockwardine has SW

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SAL/Wrockwardine/Gaz1868.html
"ADMASTON, a township in the parish of Wrockwardine, hundred of South Bradford, in county Shropshire, 1 mile to the S.W. of Wellington, and half a mile S. from Admaston railway station."

Which ever I'm getting nowhere fast with William Hall I have found one in Wellington baptised 1792 to Reece and Elizabeth but he appears to be on the 1851 census married to an Elizabeth (mine was in Birmingham married to Mary Smith of Preston on the Wealds Moor) so he can be ruled out At the Shrewsbury RO last Thursday (just before they closedisn't it always that way) I was told there were two Admastons one in the parish of Wrockswardine and one in Wellington its all very confusing
I'll have to go back to Shrewsbury quickly.

Hi Trees

I've had my OS map out and can't find that one, only the one to the NW.

The only place that I can find with that description is Aston. Unless anyone else on here knows of it, I'd ask the RO to show you where it is on a map.

Here's the  online OS map:

Many thanks Gadget,
Yes I will ask at the RO I'd spent all my time looking for the other line and just tried William last minute thought it would be straight forward  ;D
Hooray for a good mystery
